The Baitul Salaam Residence for Abused and Neglected Women and Children
Since November 1, 1999
the shelter program has housed 710 women and children from various parts of the US and five foreign countries (Pakistan, India,
Egypt, Ghana and Tanzania). Through our outreach program we have assisted thousands with gas money and bus fare (for job search),
referrals for medical assistance, housing, legal and many other services.
The Shelter Program needs $350,000 per
year to meet the present need of emergency housing in our community. This level of funding will enable us to provide a 24/7
hotline, pay salaries for a staff of four, and increase our intervention services in general. Your assistance is needed to
reach this goal. You can help as an individual or group.
In the absence of the funding necessary we have been
meeting our shelter needs by working with other shelter programs as well as with property managers and individuals who have
spare bedrooms and other space in their homes. We still have to pay to get people into some shelters. Of course we pay hotels/motels
and those who open their private homes to survivors of abuse. It still costs to do the work
